Tips for a Better Morning Routine

Sarita

Let’s be honest, we all have a chaotic morning routine. Especially on school days, we just wake up throw something on, and walk out the door. Some of us don’t even wash our face or put on sunscreen, we’re just too tired to do all that extra stuff. This is a self-call-out. Well as a fellow lazy person I understand the dread of getting up early and doing anything. Lately, however, I’ve been changing up little things that have made my morning more tolerable. Here are some tips for a better morning for my lazy people, or my not-so-lazy people whatever floats your boat.

Go to bed early, wake up early

I know I know sounds so generic right? I hate seeing that crap when I need help getting my life together, but it works! Now before you get bummed out, no you don’t have to wake up at 4, 5, or even 6 am. You get to choose what early means to you, to me is around 7:30-8 am. And if I feel like sleeping in a little I’ll sleep til 8:30-9 but once the last alarm hits I have to get up and get ready to start my day.

Stretch!

Before I work out or dance, I always stretch because I don’t want to risk injuring myself. When I stretch I feel free and able to do anything! Well I’m always moving so stretching is not an option for me, and I love it! The moment I wake up the first thing I do is stretch my body and get ready for my day. Sometimes if I have a little more time, I’ll do some yoga at home. I’ve got my yoga mat next to my bed ready for use every single day. Don’t skip out on stretching!

Have some breakfast!

My life can be a little hectic, most of the time I don’t even know when I’ll be able to eat lunch. Eating out isn’t much of an option either because of my dietary restrictions, there’s no fast food for the diet I got. So every day I have to have some breakfast even if it’s just juice or a protein shake. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! Don’t skip out on it! I know that I won’t have lots of time to prepare something nice and fancy in the morning, so I’ll make my breakfast the night before and eat it in the morning. It’s a little bit of effort but helpful in the long run.

Make your bed

Imagine coming home from a vacation and seeing your room is a total mess! I would quite literally cry. Traveling can be so exhausting and on top of that, I come home to a messy room that I have to clean as well as unload my luggage. Just the thought of it gets me stressed! Well, we get that bad energy every day! I used to make my bed after I came back from school then I’d do my homework and whatnot, but the thought that my bed wasn’t made just made me stressed! So every morning I’d put in a little extra effort to make my bed, my bed isn’t complicated so I can easily make it tidy in 5 minutes. If you’ve got a complicated bed that’s okay too! It’ll take a little more effort but there’s nothing more relaxing than coming home to a tidy and clean room.

Scroll through your social media for a little

The most morning routine tip you’ll hear is to stay out of your phone. I understand it’s healthy to be off your phone and take a technology break every once in a while. I just don’t have that kind of discipline! The first thing I do in the morning is getting on my phone, text my friends, and scroll through social media for a little while. I don’t think it’s a bad thing as long as I only scroll for a few minutes. Then I’m doing the rest of my morning routine like usual.

Set a goal for the day

When your days are filled with the same old routine and there’s nothing extra to add to your day, it can be a little draining and you could feel burnt out very quickly. Try and find something random and fun to do every once in a while. When I’m starting to feel bored with my normal routine I set a goal of doing something new. Maybe try going to a park and studying there, or paint with a technique you never used before. Just be sure to have fun! Don’t stress about doing something new every single day, just try new things when you feel like it.

Do everything at your own pace

Finally, the most important tip that everyone should follow, do everything at your own pace. Maybe stretching and doing some yoga is too much, and maybe making your bed isn’t as easy as it sounds. Maybe the sheer idea of a set morning routine is overwhelming. That’s completely understandable! You don’t have to apply every tip I have to your every day all at once, just do as much as you feel comfortable with. Slow progress is better than no progress! You got this! I believe in you!

So now that you’ve seen all of the small changes I made to my lazy-girl morning routine, I hope you found some of these tips helpful!
